The hypothesis can be formulated as follows: the conflict understood as the opposite of the neutralisation and naturalisation of the state of things is at the root of the real. Following this
intention, then, first of all, it is urgent to specify what I understand by real in order to locate the place of philosophy; then, it is necessary to specify what I read as conflict in order to maintain
that the form of thought is radical. Moreover, as we know, these technical terms – the real and the conflict – appear explicitly or implicitly in the production of both Machiavelli and Esposito,
and particularly in the reading that the Neapolitan makes of the Florentine’s work. From my point of view, it is important to underline the place that Machiavelli occupies in Esposito’s
thought because it allows us to investigate, dimension and delineate the function of radical thought.
